VERONA DECLARATION - Health as a fundamental human right irrespective of origin and legal status
The Issue
There is a deep concern for the legislation and policies adopted by European countries with respect to migrant people.
The VERONA DECLARATION emphasizes the right to health as a fundamental human right for all the people irrespective of origin, ethnicity and legal status.
The VERONA DECLARATION (enclosed) was issued at the end of the VI European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECMTIH), that was held in Verona (Italy) on September 6-10, 2009.
The VERONA DECLARATION also demands that Global Health Initiatives addressing priority needs of resource-limited settings contribute to the strengthening of local health systems and give greater prominence to addressing the social and structural determinants of people's ill-health
The VERONA DECLARATION was endorsed again by the VII ECTMIH in Barcelona, October 3-6, 2011.
