Trish Hredzak-Showalter started this petition to Verona borough

We deserve a safer community.

We are a group of Verona area residents united to insist that our elected officials take stronger initiatives in crime prevention and neighborhood revitalization. There must be changes made to the current community safety measures in order to properly protect our citizens.

We want Verona to be a safer place to live, work, shop, and play. Please sign and share if you agree. We insist our elected officials do the following immediately:

#1) Increase police support.

 - Support the dedicated police of Verona and incentivize their efforts by revisiting and approving Mayor Dave Ricupero's prior requests to increase the pay for officers, to attract and maintain an adequate police staff.

- Furthermore, offer additional full-time positions to long-term part-time officers, so that all shifts have appropriate coverage.

- Explore opportunities to share police and other emergency department services between the Twin Boroughs of Oakmont and Verona.

#2) Aquire additional security cameras

Municipal buildings should be outfitted with security cameras, including the fire hall and park buildings. There should also be security cameras to help the police staff monitor Allegheny River Boulevard. We ask that council aggressively pursue all available grants and programs that will allow us to acquire security cameras for the common good at little or no cost to the borough.

#3) Increase Lighting

Street lamps have been allowed to remain broken or with burnt out lights. We request that a member of council contact Duquesne Light to insist that all street lights are kept in good working order, starting immediately.

#4 ) Support a Neighborhood Watch Program

We request to set up a meeting with the police chief to discuss re-opening our Neighborhood Watch program.

We look forward to building a safer community through support of our police force and doing what we can as citizens to help them do their difficult jobs.
