Verona Kids started this petition to Verona Board of Education and

Our children need more in-person learning. We need to treat this as the crisis it is. With a sense of urgency, we want our administration to put in place plans for more in-person time in school and we need better and more transparent communication around planning. The hybrid model is not adequate.

The administration / BOE must:

-       Deliver an actionable plan with clearly defined benchmarks, in consultation with public health officials, to increase in-person learning for students K-12 this spring and fall

-       Be creative and innovative in order to support more in-person learning (e.g. infrastructure planning and openness to reexamine six-foot guidelines once benchmarks are met) to allow less co-horting and more in-person time.

-       Be consistent in policy. Protocols are allowed in extracurricular programs (e.g. less than six feet of spacing) that are not allowed in class settings.

-       Provide clear and transparent communication from the administration to the entire district community – parents and teachers.

-       Acknowledge and address the very real social, emotional, and academic impact remote learning is having on children at every grade level.

Come join us on Friday, March 5th, from 4 - 6 pm. Our rally will take place on Bloomfield Avenue in front of Verona Town Hall.

Guidelines: Social distancing is recommended, masks required, this is an apolitical event (keep focus on the schools), no personal attacks on signage, no obstruction of pedestrian or vehicular traffic, Verona Police Department asks that we keep moving as much as possible, stay away from "open the schools" language as technically our schools are open, children welcome to make signs and attend

Signage Recommendations: Rooms over Zooms, Hybrid isn't Healthy, Advance by April, Full Days this Fall, We Love Our Teachers, Take A Stand/Make A Plan, Schools are Safe, Science Says It's Safe, Mental Health Matters
