Philip Vera Cruz is an unsung Zag. He attended Gonzaga in 1931 (but didn't graduate). He was a worker, a labor organizer, and an advocate of justice and dignity for all workers. He was a co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union. In 2020, Ryan Liam started the process to memorialize Vera Cruz. Please indicate your support for this effort by signing below. Liam explained that Gonzaga needs a memorial because "it would serve as a beacon of hope for the non-traditional students, for first-generation college students, working-class students, students with marginalized identities,… so they [all] can see not only that they do have a place, but for whatever reason [if] they cannot finish their education at Gonzaga, not all is lost;" they still remain part of this community.
