Make Old Buncombe Road safe for everyone

The one-mile stretch of Old Buncombe that runs through Sans Souci (between Pete Hollis and Blue Ridge Drive) is too narrow to have four lanes of traffic on it. According to S.C. Department of Transportation, roads narrowed to slow traffic shouldn't be less than 10 feet wide. In 16 measurements of the road, 14 were less than 10 feet wide. Five were less than 9 feet wide. The narrowest spot is 8 feet, 2 inches wide, which is 4 inches narrower than a standard bus.
In addition, since Old Buncombe was repaved in 2012, there have been more collisions on this one-mile stretch than before the repaving. There have also been more injuries. This is according to numbers obtained from the State Troopers who respond to collisions on Old Buncombe, since it is a state road.
If you think the one-mile stretch of Old Buncombe between Pete Hollis and Blue Ridge Drive should be changed from four lanes to two travel lanes and a central turning lane, please sign our petition.
