Vehicle Warning Indicators - Dash Board Warning Lights - Relating to impaired driving " to be included as part of the vehicle warning system in all Vehicles in Canada & the United States.

Warning lights indicate that a fault has occurred inside the vehicle's system, the error could very well be with the operator of the vehicle   a friendly reminder when you turn your vehicle on to remind you not to operate your vehicle well "Impaired"  It worked for seat belts and helped change drivers behaviour. Vehicle Warning Indicator - Dash Board Warning Lights can have an impact on changing drivers behaviour relating to impaired driving.

Every day millions of people start their vehicles, recreational vehicles, commercial vehicles etc.  therefore seeing the symbol over and over again will have an effect on driving behaviour and awarness level. It is one thing that can have an impact on impaired driving.

Every day on the average in Canada 150 people are charged with Impaired Driving Incidents - Most impaired driving incidents do not have a direct victim.

On the average a person will drive up to 80 times before being charged with impaired driving or causing an accident relating to impaired driving.

Every day in America people drive drunk 300,000 times but fewer than 4,000 are arrested - in 2010 adults got behind the wheel 112 million times driving impaired.

Impaired Driving   costs Canada 20.5 billion dollars a year  the USA 199 Billion dollars a year.

For years we have been sending out messages about Imparied Driving yet it still seems to be an occurance I would like to try an approach from another vantage point instead of harsher penalties as a deterence lets try to make sure every Canadian, American understands the " Legal Definition of Impaired Driving " and what .08BAC means.  Very few people understand the Legal Definiton of Impaired Driving or .08BAC if we did there would be very few impaired incidents.

In Canada

Drinking and driving in Canada is a crime. Section 253 of the Criminal Code of Canada sets out the offence of impaired driving (drinking and driving) in Canada:

253. Every one commits an offence who operates a motor vehicle or vessel or operates or assists in the operation of an aircraft or of railway equipment or has the care or control of a motor vehicle, vessel, aircraft or railway equipment, whether it is in motion or not,

(a) while the person’s ability to operate the vehicle, vessel, aircraft or railway equipment is impaired by alcohol or a drug; or

(b) having consumed alcohol in such a quantity that the concentration in the person’s blood exceeds eighty milligrams of alcohol in one hundred millilitres of blood.

A person is guilty of impaired driving where he uses a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or a drug. The person must either use the vehicle while impaired or after his blood alcohol level was 80mg of alcohol to 100ml of blood (0.08).

Canada also has a "care & control" criminal charge relating to Impaired Driving.

Your support is critical to making this happen, and reaching my goal that every Canadian understands the leagl definition of "Impaired Driving" & .08BAC & what they have to lose if they are charged with an Impaired Driving offence.

Together we can make a difference.
