Carly Richards started this petition to Vaughan Gethin and

Bowel cancer is currently the third most common cancer in Wales. The Bowel Screening kits which are currently available on the NHS can detect Bowel cancer at an early stage, often when there are no symptoms, if Bowel cancer is detected at this early stage, treatment is more effective. Currently in Wales these kits that save lives are only being offered to residents aged 60-74 years of age.

This year our family have had a couple of members affected by this awful disease, one of those members was my Mum. It was heart breaking to see her in pain going through her treatment, thankfully it was detected early and she is recovering well. But it does beg the question could it have been detected before there were symptoms, if Bowel screening was offered in Wales from the age of 50? Lowering the age of bowel screening could save thousands of lives here in Wales, if this was the case my Mum would have been screened three times already. Scotland currently screens from 50 and I recently read an article that England will be offering screening from 50 years of age too. Wales needs to be offering these lifesaving kits to improve early detection of this awful disease.
