**VANCOUVER NEEDS ADDED FOCUS ON BIKE THEFT **

Dear residents of Vancouver,

This is a petition by fellow cyclists, who are lovers of the two-wheeled vehicle and lovers of our beautiful city's greenscape and nature preservation. However, we are losing hope in our attempt to keep Vancouver cycle-friendly, and we desperately need you help.

Rising Problem: BIKE THEFT IN VANCOUVER

We have been locking our bikes, watching over them, securing them, hiding them...and yet, our bikes are still getting stolen on a DAILY basis!

Proposed Solutions:

  1. SECURE BICYCLE PARKING STATIONS: Our city needs bike stations. Taking Toronto as an example, they have already installed secure indoor parking facilities for bikes. These stations are protected with 24 hour video surveillance, and provide safe, long-term parking to protect your bicycle against theft, vandalism and bad weather.
  2. IMPROVE CURRENT PUBLIC BIKE STANDS: There are several stand designs in the market that are catered for bike theft prevention, such as ATLAS , and our city could help us a lot by installing them for public use (We bet that cyclists will even agree to pay a small monthly membership fee for using them!).
  3. Granville Island has offered free use of high quality locks, which reduced risks of theft by 60%!! Why not do this across Vancouver? You can keep the locks attached to the stands to prevent lock theft, while maintaining their availability for public use.

Please sign the petition to voice our claim to the Vancouver Police, so that we can make bicycles in Vancouver less prone to theft. If you have had your bike stolen, if you have a bike and are afraid of it getting stolen, or if you are afraid to get a bike because of theft risks, PLEASE consider signing this petition.

This is a call from your local community cyclists, we need your help!
