TAKE THE PARK BACK!
RALLY AT STANLEY PARK!
Saturday September 12th at noon.
You’ve sent emails, phoned Commissioners, signed petitions, and filled out surveys, but this Park Board is not listening. They need to hear how we feel.
Gathering will take place at Hallelujah Point, just west of the Totem Poles parking lot.
When Covid-19 began, the Vancouver Park Board did all the right things to keep us safe. They closed the park to all motor vehicle access to encourage people to keep to their local parks and create more space by taking bikes off the seawall. Playgrounds and parks throughout Vancouver were also closed.
Since then, as we entered phase 3, all beaches, parks and playgrounds were reopened everywhere. Everywhere, but in Stanley Park where many restrictions still apply, notably the entire closure of the seawall to biking and access by car cut off at key destinations. No one can go to Third Beach or Brockton Point by car. Access from the North Shore has been closed completely and many lots have been reduced considerably, including handicapped spaces.
The public has spoken with 27,000 people signing a petition demanding Stanley Park be open to all. The closures were meant to be temporary, but now they are being treated like a trial to potenTally keep them this way forever. This was never the stated intention and in fact, the Park Board majority promised to consult and listen before making any changes to the park.
All parks, cycle routes, playgrounds, beaches and parking lots are now 100% open everywhere but Stanley Park. Why? Park Board Commissioners who voted for this refuse to explain. We want our park back now.
Bring your signs. Bring your chairs. Bring your stories. Bring your passion.
Stanley Park wasn’t broken...We want it back.
