Per numerous conversations via email and momentum in regards to keeping the JFK base open, we were assured time and again no operational changes would be made in 2017. On August 10, we were informed via conference call the JFK base would close November 1, 2017. Upon collectively reviewing our relocation package, we, JFK based ITM's request the following changes renegotiated:
- In lieu of the $1,800 monthly stipend categorized as a "bonus," we request it be added into our monthly per diem. As our West Coast bases are located in the most expensive cities in the US, a taxed bonus will be ineffective in ensuring we have our transportation and hotel/crashpad needs covered.
- In reference to the above mentioned conversations, we are requesting deadhead pay for our commutes to/from work. As many of our teammates live in non Virgin America/Alaska cities, we are asking for a flat deadhead pay for a standard flight from JFK - SFO/LAX.
- As winter on the East Coast results in canceled flights and numerous changes in operations, we are requesting our confirmed business travel seats be extended until April 2018 to ensure we are able to operate our pairings, keeping impact to the Virgin America and Alaska operations at a minimum.
We are requesting that these changes be effective immediately, with monetary compensation reflected in the November 15, 2017 paycheck. We believe we can come to an equitable agreement with Virgin America and Alaska Air Management. We request that Management review and respond to our request no later than September 1, 2017.
