This petition is the public support for ski-lift operations at Mount Hotham and Falls Creek to commence again from August 19.
The Alpine Region and alpine resorts in Victoria have endured considerable hardship in 2020. Communities and businesses in the region have been economically affected since January 2020. Commencing ski-lift operations at Mount Hotham and Falls Creek alpine resorts from August 19 would help increase and improve the economic contribution to the region. The economic contribution of the alpine resorts in the winter season is significant for the region and for the state of Victoria and even if ski-lift operations commenced from August 19, there would be economic contribution that otherwise may not have occurred for the region if ski-lift operations did not resume. Commencing lift-operations from August 19 would have broader benefits not only for Mount Hotham and Falls Creek but for the greater alpine region such as employment and job opportunities, accommodation, transport, retail, food/beverage and tourism. Mount Hotham and Falls Creek provide significant benefits for surrounding towns during the winter season. These towns are reliant on the ski-lift operations of Mount Hotham and Falls Creek in winter. The economic impact is not only for Mount Hotham and Falls Creek. The impact is broader than the alpine resorts. Mt Buller has demonstrated not suspending ski-lift operations as a result of Stage 3 restrictions in Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire.  COVID SAFE operating plans at Mount Hotham and Falls Creek as well as the state government’s ‘Alpine Activities Guidelines for coronavirus (Covid 19) were developed to ensure the health and well-being of staff, guests and the wider community.
