Stop The Surveys Gathering Private Information of Students in Virginia’s Public Schools
The other day, my daughter (age 13) began asking me questions about Sexual Preferences and whether archery is considered using weapons. She proceeded to tell me that she took a survey at her middle school and wasn’t sure how to answer some of the questions. When I inquired about it, she informed me that she had a long questionnaire asking if she has weapons in the home, if she’s ever used a weapon, what her sexual preference is and many other questions that is none of FCPS’s business.
When I got home, I asked my older daughter if she had to complete a survey lately. She said last week they gave her a survey that included 120 questions. Some of the things that she was asked (How many sexual partners have you had, how many times have you had sex over the past month, when was the last time you used drugs, etc). She even told me that they asked if you have ever tried a particular over the counter item to get high. She didn’t even know you could get high off of this item. Thanks FCPS for giving my daughter ideas. My older daughter said that when she was a Sophomore in HS, she took one of these surveys and felt like something was wrong with her because she hadn’t had sex yet. Why are these surveys being given to all students?
