No environmental justice for Virginia community

Hello friends! Thanks so much for supporting the Union Hill community and environmental justice in Virginia by signing the petition! With your help, we sent more than 3,200 signatures to Virginia officials before the public comment period closed Friday. The number has now nearly doubled! We so appreciate your support from across Virginia, the U.S. and the globe. Alas, the Virginia Air Pollution Control Board today approved the permit for a massive natural gas compressor station in Union Hill, despite evidence that it would disproportionately harm the low-income community founded by freed slaves and still 85% African-American. Supported by the thousands of you who signed this petition, the residents of Union Hill will continue to fight to stop the compressor station and the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. In the next week or so, we’ll contact you (if you provided your email) about how to stay engaged in this effort. (We’ll do our best to catch duplicate emails if you’re already on one of our lists.)   In solidarity, Friends of Buckingham Appalachian Voices Chesapeake Climate Action Network
