Uxbridge For Change started this petition to Uxbridge School Committee

Uxbridge School committee is hearing an overwhelming amount of opposition in relation to CRT and ethnic studies related curriculum.
This petition is to make it known that there is a larger support network than is vocalized in the School Committee meetings. We are here and we want our voices heard.
This education is essential to ensuring a more diverse education and school system. According to a Stanford University study, taking an ethnic-studies course led to better grades, especially in math and science, and also increased attendance among high school students at risk of dropping out.
These courses do not just simply improve academic statistics, a variety of studies have proven that these classes improve the lives of those enrolled. It also improves the social and emotional aspects of these lives too. Many students will leave this class with a better understanding of themselves, their classmates of color, and their society. With that understanding comes many positive effects like an improved sense of self worth and identity which improves an individual's relationship with the world.
This education is necessary for many reasons, one of the most important being accessibility. Often a student will get minimal and repetitive exposure to this category of learning until they reach post secondary education. College tuition should not be a barrier to education that is truly essential for the development of young adults. As the second highest ranked state for education our students should have the opportunity to obtain this education without obstacles. Other states like California and Connecticut have already passed extensive bills at the k-12 level. It is time to ensure that the MA education system reflects the diversity of its population.
