Due to the The COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Virginia has canceled graduation, as planned, for May 2020. The University has stated that they will come up with creative alternatives to mark the occasion for students. The graduating Class of 2020 understands why we must safe guard ourselves and the community during this trying time. We are also saddened by the reality that we may not be able to walk The Lawn.

On behalf of the graduating Class of 2020, we ask that you consider POSTPONING graduation to a later date as a creative alternative and do not cancel Final Exercises altogether. Walking The Lawn with our classmates to wear the Honors of Honor is something we have toiled for, tirelessly.  We desire to postpone the 2020 Final Exercises to a later date so that we can have the same celebratory Final Exercises as the classes that have gone before us. Please do not take this away from the University of Virginia Class of 2020.

We kindly ask for a postponement of Final Exercises, as the creative alternative, as these are once in a lifetime memories that we will never be able to get back.

Thank you,
University of Virginia Class of 2020
