victoria foote started this petition to Utah State Government Utah House of Representatives and

We the residents of Utah find the 4.8 % food tax to be an illegal act of the Utah goverment. It is an act of theft to tax such a necessity as food. We the people oppose this increase and any Utah state official that supports this increase will be outed as a supporter of profit over people. We will not elect or reflect officials who would rob us of our hard earned money, without first looking at their own budgets and salaries. Who will not first find other ways that increase state revenue with hurting Utah families, communities and beloved Utah culture. This tax will only hurt the working class, the backbone of the Utah economy; the families that make Utah a community. The burden of paying more for the necessity of food will only increase the already struggling working class. This food tax increase will only have a domino effect of increased, health care issues,  increase mental health crisis,  already stressed social welfare programs, increasing already stressed school nutrition programs,  harming the financially stressed aging population, creating poor nutritional options for working class families leading to increase obesity statistics, and food pantry shortages. The at risk populations will be furthered damaged by such an increase, as well as median  income families; leading to an increase of homelessness and/ or creating an increase for low income housing that will be an inevitable necessity in order to maintain shelter and secure food.  Accompanied by a declined community health, community commodities,  community cohesion,  leading to further class dischord. Lastly, The side effect of a food tax will lead to downward growth in local economies, as per locals will have less income to spend and invest in local economies. Local economies being stressed will only lead to eventually state economy downward growth.
