Utah Governor Cox VETO permitless carry bill H.B. 60
Utahns do not support the prospect of having more untrained, unsafe concealed gun carrier in our communities. The Concealed Carry Permit process trains gun owners to be responsible. It provides education on the lawful use of deadly force, the safe handling and storage of guns, and suicide prevention. It also requires a background check. Utah law currently requires this training of all concealed carry gun owners. H.B. 60 seeks to remove this requirement and this puts all Utahn's public safety at greater risk. We know, as our new Governor, you care about the safety of all Utahns and we ask that you VETO this dangerous bill. Of course there are gun owners who know how important this training is to be a responsible gun owner, BUT Utahns want ALL gun owners to be safe, properly trained and to pass a background check. The CCP requirement helps to create that. 76% of gun owners oppose eliminating the training requirements for CCP. Utah legislation should be focused on passing PROVEN methods to reduce gun violence, not make it easier for prohibited persons to carry a concealed firearm.
