Mackenzie McDermott started this petition to Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Mike Fowlks

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources continues to ignore the voices of environmentalists and introduce environmentally damaging mountain goats for the sole purpose of giving hunters more charismatic animals to hunt and entertain tourists.

Alpine ecosystems are extremely fragile and already being destroyed by these animals. The Grand Canyon Trust through a long-term monitoring program on Mount Peale has reported nearly 300 wallows that mountain goats have uprooted vegetation from. Mountain goats increase competition in an already hostile environment, put rare plants such as the La Sal daisy in danger, and risk spreading diseases to Utah's native bighorn sheep.

The risks of damaging the delicate alpine ecosystem and the damage mountain goats have already been documented to have committed is not worth meeting the demand of hunters.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is supposed to "conserve and protect the wildlife of Utah," not aid in its destruction.

We demand that the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources listen to environmentalists and put out a statement committing to the end of mountain goat introduction in Utah.
