Stop the use of single-use plastic straws at USWSU
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
The UK is estimated to use 8.5 billion straws a year. Most of these are used only once and for a matter of minutes before being thrown away.
In an effort to reduce the amount of single-use plastic waste produced by the students of the University of South Wales in their students' union, we are petitioning to USWSU to consider making the students' union a plastic straw free establishment.
Firms such as JD Wetherspoon, Wagamama, Costa Coffee, Pizza Express and Waitrose have all started phasing out plastic straws and replacing them for a plastic-free alternative (such as paper straws) or offering them on request only.
Though our Students' Union going plastic straw free would only be a small change in the grand scheme of things, it will reduce our global footprint and hopefully encourage other universities to follow in our path.
We are asking all of you to join us in signing and sharing this petition and helping us embark on a road to a greener, more sustainable future for USWSU.
