USPS should sell the LLV, not destroy them
Why this petition matters
Anyone that grew up in the 80s to now all know the Grumman LLV, the USPS "Long Life Vehicle." Those LLVs are coming to the end of their service life for the USPS, but they still have lots of service life for a small business or handyman.
Unfortunately, the USPS has stated they are going to "dispose" of the LLVs. That means they plan to have them all crushed. We all know the USPS is struggling for money. According the Wikipedia, the USPS has approximately 140,000 LLVs left in the fleet. If they sold each LLV for $2000, they would be able to make $280 million. $280 million that the USPS needs, desperately, and the small businesses and handymen would get access to affordable workhorse vehicles that can help them get their start.
So I propose that USPS sell the LLVs at market for an affordable price, knowing that some have been in service since 1987. Parts are easy to get for them, as they are all based on a Chevy S-10 Blazer, and they all have either a Chevy 2.5l Iron Duke, or a 2.2l engine from a Chevy Cavalier, both engines also have easily available parts as well.
So I ask that USPS sell the LLVs when they are no longer in service, instead of "disposing" of them to a scrap yard.
