Approve Individual Mailboxes on the Express side of New Kent Arbors subdivision
Why this petition matters
Petition to remove the cluster boxes in the Arbors of New Kent subduction of New Kent, Va. These boxes are too far from individual’s homes according to the rules on cluster boxes found on the USPS website.
Mail frequently goes missing and gets delivered to the wrong box. Cluster boxes have been known to be left open or unlocked, leaving everyone’s mail and personal property exposed. The Cluster boxes are facing the wrong way, on the main road which makes it dangerous to get out the car and get your mail, no street lights to light the area, and it is only used for 2 streets out of the whole neighborhood.
We were promised individual mailboxes, only to find out, USPS decided to keep the unappealing dirty, cluster boxes on the main road while the rest of the new construction neighborhood gets to have their individual mailboxes. When the Cluster Boxes are PREFERRED and not required as per usps website. The location of the cluster boxes are in violation as per USPS safety guidelines. The sidewalk that gives access to the mailboxes is also classified as a “walking/bike trail” adding to congestion in one common area being the mail area. The dimensions of the space of the sidewalk,(which is very narrow) you would use to access the cluster boxes makes passing by bicyclist and pedestrian walking an added safety concern. They do NOT conform to the subdivision aesthetics and appearance. Our homes were built the same time as the rest of the subdivision, but were the ones chosen to have cluster boxes.
This petition would be signed in hopes that D.R. Horton would work towards having its residents on the Express side of Arbors of New Kent to have their own mailbox at their individual homes as promised on the contract mirroring the rest of the subdivision.
