Add recycling receptacles at The University of Southern Mississippi

The University of Southern Mississippi has a beautiful campus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. This past year a student initiative called "Pick It Up USM" has made progress in solving a campus wide trash issue. However, there is an unacceptable lack of recycling containers in the busiest parts of campus. The Office of Sustainability has added some trash receptacles on campus, but very few recycling bins are present. More recycling options should be added because a very large portion of the waste that is generated on campus is recyclable. This waste ranges from plastic bottles and scraps to organic waste such as paper and cardboard. Adding recycling options around campus is important because it would not only help solve the trash issue, but also reduce waste and environmental stress in the local community. I encourage the people of the Hattiesburg area and the students of USM to get involved and speak up to improve the appearance and sustainability of our university.
I want the University of Southern Mississippi and the Hattiesburg area to live up to their reputation for beauty and cleanliness. The support for this petition will help communicate how important it is to protect and preserve the natural beauty of our colleges. Join me in asking The University of Southern Mississippi's Office of Sustainability to add more recycling bins around popular areas of campus.
