FOR ALL USJ FACULTIES TO REMAIN CLOSED AND NOT PUT EVERYONE'S HEALTH AT RISK

The world has been fighting a pandemic for the past couple months. COVID-19 still doesn't have a cure, is easily spread and is still new to everyone. For these reasons, most universities will remain closed until September. Here in Lebanon, AUB, LAU and many other universities won't open their doors until September. Yet, USJ has decided to re-open their doors starting the 28th of May. Why should we take the risk ?  We, students of USJ, ESMOD and other faculties within USJ are clearly opposed to this decision for many reasons :

- We are not willing to put our health and our family's health at risk for this sake, we believe there is a bigger picture and that we can catch up later on with the university's program.

- University, for security reasons, is planning on keeping the AC's turned off. A decision that makes sense since the virus would be more spreadable through AC. But knowing that the usual temperature in Beirut from June to end of July varies from 30 to 40 degrees, and that we will all be wearing masks and gloves, it won't be bearable. And if someone decides to turn on the AC on, then it becomes risky.

-Lebanon only has 400 hospital beds, if we suffer from a second wave and people can't get proper treatment, who will take responsibility ?

-Even though protective measures have been put in place, staying indoors with other students for a long period of time is too dangerous, knowing that the virus is airborn.

- The minister of Education gave certificate and diplomas to the students for a reason.

We understand that the university is only following the ministry's decision but we believe there are other solutions that can be thought of and be taken into consideration, other than student's presence.
