Tommy Walter started this petition to USGA and

As a PGA Professional, I give hundreds of golf lessons every year. Not once have I heard a student say they would like to hit it shorter off the tee. The mission of this petition is to show support for the USGA, R&A and the PGA Tour to change the golf course setups (longer rough, narrower fairways, etc.), before making changes to equipment for the masses like they have in the past. We have seen this before with both the "groove rule" and the "anchor ban". Both rule changes had virtually no impact on the golfers at the professional level, however they hurt the average and club golfer tremendously. If all avenues are explored and equipment changes are the only thing left to combat distance, we will accept that when the time comes. I believe the rules of golf should apply to all who play the game and we should not have a second set of rules for professional golf. That is what sets golf apart from other sports. The rules are the same for all. Please sign this petition if you would like to see the rough grown higher, the fairways narrower and all golf course setup avenues explored before changes are made to the equipment. Thank you for your support!
