• C.W. Bill Young was a Florida state Senator and member of the Johns Committee, which was dedicated to persecuting LGBTQ+ students and professors across the state, including at the University of South Florida.
• Young served on the Committee when it published the infamous Purple Pamphlet, which claimed homosexuals carry “degenerate diseases” and are a menace to society. He defended it by saying: "our report tried to show [homosexuality] in its true light – it's a very repulsive subject."
• For a university that serves innumerable LGBTQ+ students, staff and faculty the name of this building is not only inappropriate, it's reprehensible.

We the undersigned demand that the University of South Florida change the name of the C.W. Bill Young (CWY) building.
