A few students have come together to create a national petition regarding the overcharging of tuition and fees as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to amplify individual petitions created surrounding this issue and also highlight a collective voice for these concerns. We hope to continue building advocacy on local, state, and federal levels.
Our petition can be found at: https://www.change.org/lowerunifeesnational
We would love if you (or anyone reading this) signed, shared, and commented to continue spreading the word! Students should not have to pay for resources and an educational experience that are non-accessible and quite limited. All the best! #LowerUniFees
My name is Tyra Reed and I am a current University of Maryland student. Myself and a few others started our similar petition a few days ago and are gaining good traction. What I have noticed however is that many schools are still not listening to students in this regard.
Since there are so many petitions here asking for the same provisions, I think it would be very effective if we all started a national campaign - as we are stronger together than apart.
We can sign each other's petition, use the same hashtags #LowerUniFees #NoResourceNoFee, form a coalition to amplify our collective voice in media, apply grander pressure to leadership, and more.
5 other schools have already reached out to me and are interested, it would be great to add more.
My email is treed127@umd.edu. I hope to hear from you soon to collaborate on this important work!

It simply does not make sense to charge the same amount of funds in tuition when the conditions for which a student is learning have changed and not for the better. These are also very tough times for students and their respective loved ones. The university should demonstrate compassion and some logical sense.
