USD 250 Destry Brown should resign
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
In case you haven't heard of the events that happened at Pittsburg High School in Kansas, our incoming principal was forced to resign because she had a degree from a diploma mill. This information was uncovered by our high school journalism team at The Booster, after Amy Robertson was approved by our superintendent, Destry Brown, and hired for the position.
Original Booster article:
The Washinton Post's Article:
Concerns about Robertson's qualifications were raised in the local newspaper, The Morning Sun, immediately after the announcement of the new hire.
Brown defended Robertson's qualifications and soon after, The Morning Sun published an article in effect apologizing for raising questions about Robertson.
Since The Booster's article went viral and was picked up by The Washington Post, the New York Times, and many other outlets, Brown has been trying to claim that he wanted The Booster to look into the situation and supported their investigation all along. It is obvious that he is trying to save face after this blunder. Our school system deserves a superintendent who has the skills to seek out the right people for the district and the common sense to check into applicants' backgrounds and qualifications and act upon any findings. Such responsibilities should not fall to our students; this should have been done before she was selected to be the principal. Destry Brown needs to take responsibility and step down.
Our goal is to hit 1000 signatures. This is to represent the student body and members of the community.
