As an international student studying in Orlando Florida, it has been a great roller coaster ride. I have enjoyed all my classes, the professors at my college have been really helpful and the school has provided resources to aid learning. However, we live in a world with uncertainties and during this trying period of the COVID-19 it has been really hard. To be awarded an acceptance letter and student visa, students need to demonstrate financial capability of at least one year. In addition to this, F1 students are allowed partial employment only on campus and for a maximum of 20 hours a week. Great opportunity which allows to build work history in the United States.

Sometimes it becomes a hard job just finding a department that is hiring on campus that isn't sponsored by federal work study. As F1 students, we have so many limitations. We can't apply for financial aid, student loans are a no if we don't have good credit history or a co-signer which we can't if we barely have the opportunity to work to have a SSN.

This petition is to ask our international student officials, the Presidents in our Various colleges, our state officials, to plead on our behalf to allow for F1 students access to apply for off campus work permit. We pay so much as international students. Sometimes triple the price of in state tuition. This COVID-19 pandemic is a world wide issue. Our parents businesses are shut down, banks are closed, the exchange rate in some countries have skyrocketed. Some of us are stuck and financially stressed. This can start affecting students performances both academically and in our private lives. Some of us are having issues paying our rents, (and the apartment managers are not willing to work with us) taking care of our basic needs. We don't have the ability to receive any government assistance.

I believe our government officials really appreciate the revenue us F1 students bring into the country. The number of international students in the United States set an all-time high in the 2018/19 academic year, the fourth consecutive year with more than one million international students. The total number of international students, 1,095,299, is a 0.05 percent increase over last year, according to the 2019 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange.According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, international students contributed $44.7 billion to the U.S. economy in 2018, an increase of 5.5 percent from the previous year.

All we are asking as F1 students is for our officials to help plead on our behalf to the federal government, lobbyist, and anyone who has the power to pass a bill to allow for all F1 students to be allowed to work off campus especially after we hopefully find a solution to this pandemic. We all pray for a faster solution, but some of us come from countries that can not bounce back immediately from this even after a solution has been found. This opportunity, while helping us as international students, it would also help keep the economy afloat, it would also reduce the unemployment numbers, which in recent times have gone off the hook.

I am really hoping this petition reaches the right hands and someone stands up for us so we don't have to stop what we have started. It would be heartbreaking if we are not able to complete our studies and it would also be sad for colleges to lose international students especially the monies we pay compared to what the instate students pay.
