Make USCB Meal Plans Optional for Commuting Students
Every semester, commuting students are made to unwillingly pay $350+ for meal plans they don't need when this money could be spent elsewhere, such as to cover living expenses, textbook costs, or even tuition and related fees.
Per a conversation with Mary Barney, the only way to opt out of participating in the forced meal plan purchases is to meet specific criteria and to have the food company who profits off of the unnecessary charges, regardless of whether or not we actually use meal swipes or our declining balance, approve the request. No wonder it's so difficult to get out from under this...
If you're a commuting student who is tired of being required to pay into something that should only be optional, please consider signing this petition.
