Many international students are stuck in the United States due to the travel ban and global lockdown. In order to cope with new financial challenges, many have been desperately searching for paid internship opportunities while they are here. In order to get work authorization this summer, international students must be enrolled in an internship course (minimum 1 full unit) at USC for the duration of the summer.

This would international students trying to work $1928 minimum for the summer. This is simply not fair - international students need support from USC in this time as we do not have the same protections US citizens enjoy.

The USC Administration must add a 0 unit internship course option as an emergency provision for international students stuck in the US this summer who are looking for employment. It would ease the financial burden many of us are facing in this uncertain time. It is in the university’s best interest to do so, as it will improve the odds that the international community continues a positive trajectory towards gainful employment upon graduation.
