both I, Alexis Gouldsbury and my fellow classmate Linda Tesoro are seniors at Eastport southmanor jr./sr. High school and have been wanting to start a mental health club to donate to ‘The Trevor Project’, which is an organization that advocates for ending the stigma behind mental health. Both her and I have been deeply affected by mental health and the stigma. Our goals is to teach our fellow peers to not give into the stigma and to teach them about the signs in their friends and themselves. Approximately 1 in 5 teens aged between 12-18 struggle daily from at least one or more mental disorders. That’s not even including the children that don’t speak up. Our club will not be designed to talk about our own mental health, but more as the signs in themselves and others. I am a mental health advocate on a popular platform, tiktok, as well as an admin for another mental health advocate. Linda and I are both heavily dedicated to helping others who struggle.
