Lucious Paulson started this petition to US State Department

I believe there are far too many petitions and that the number of petitions per year should be limited.  I also believe the content of any and all petitions should be carefully vetted, in order to weed out frivolous and unnecessary submissions.  I believe with strong government regulation of petitions, focus will finally be where it needs to be: on serious issues.  It's time for the government to step in and do its part.  Strict oversight on all public petitions is a must.  Petitions CAN be a useful tool for change and in getting attention on important issues.  However, when the system becomes flooded with nonsensical causes, they are a distraction from real concerns that desperately need action!  Too many times petitions are created by those only seeking to waste the time of others or in an act of self-promotion.  These people and their petitions are a danger to not only their community, but to society as a whole.  There are very serious, extremely urgent issues, topics, and concerns that need immediate attention.  But this CANNOT happen if just ANYONE with ANY concern can start and submit a petition.  To make sure petitions continue to be a useful and uninhibited tool of the voiceless, it's time for the government to intervene and regulate the volume of petitions that can be submitted in a single year, as well as the content those accepted petitions are authorized to contain.  The government MUST ACT NOW!
