In early March 2020, due to COVID19, the Mongolian Government has closed its borders to everyone including ITS OWN CITIZENS.  Since then over 10,000 Mongolians – families with young children, elderly, cancer patients, and business travelers—have been stranded abroad with no help from their government. In the US alone, there are over 2,600 stranded Mongolians without health insurance or resources, on the brink of becoming burdens on the US health care and social welfare systems. Since closing its borders, the Mongolian Government has allowed only a few charter flights which have barely made a dent on the number of stranded Mongolians.  Almost 4 months after the border closure there are still thousands of Mongolians stranded in the US, with no money and with no hope of returning to their loved ones any time soon.

We implore the US State Department and the US Embassy in Mongolia to pressure the Mongolian Government to open its borders to its citizens or to bring ALL Mongolians stranded abroad via charter flights immediately. Please tell the Mongolian Government to fulfill its duty to protect its citizens and to stop burdening the US and other countries.
