The U.S. Constitution makes it difficult for Americans to split their respective states. This petition calls on Congress to streamline the state-splitting process by eliminating the need for the splitting state’s own legislature to vote on the matter. Why ask the part of the state your separating from for permission to leave? The amendment would set forth that only the voters in the area that wishes for “statehood independence” would vote on the matter, and, if approved, the mater would move directly to the U.S. Congress for ratification. This would ensure that Americans not being heard in politically lop-aides states have the opportunity to govern themselves without the interference from the part of the state they wish to separate from.
