Why this petition matters

Bigfoot Lives Matter
Evidence is accumulating that the creature known as “Bigfoot” is an elusive type of indigenous hominid, genetically related to human beings that predates Homo Sapiens on the evolutionary timeline (Dr. Igor Burtsev, presentation in May 2021, Bailey, CO). This conclusion is reached from analysis of the DNA evidence and interactions between Bigfoot creatures and scientific researchers that demonstrate their complex linguistic abilities. Evidence also exists that they have family structures very similar to modern humans.
However, there continues to be a hostile attitude to the Bigfoot species in the United States including attempts by humans to shoot or capture these mysterious creatures. In some states, it is legal to hunt Bigfoot as a sport with no permit of any kind required. As an example, one Oklahoma state representative recently proposed creating a Bigfoot hunting season as a way of attracting hunters and tourists to the area. We believe that Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, as they are also called by some Native Americans, should have the same basic legal protections as other humans in the United States including prosecution for anyone caught hurting or attempting to harm these creatures.

This petition calls for the Federal Government to create appropriate legislation to recognize and extend basic legal protection for Bigfoot as a type of human being with the right to basic human legal protections including a prohibition on bounty hunting or any type of deliberate harassment. This legislation would also call on the National Park and National Forest Services to keep accurate records of all reported interactions between park and forest visitors or employees and such Bigfoot creatures within park boundaries and provide annual reports to Congress of such interactions. Such legislation would also include provisions for dealing with problematic situations on public or private lands, such as when Bigfoot harass ranchers' livestock, horses, or the ranchers themselves, for example.
The petitioners believe that such actions are also necessary to learn more about this elusive species, similar to the Pentagon's AAWSAP program's investigations of such activities on various properties in the U.S. (former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Chris Mellon, slide 9 of Congressional Briefing). Secondly, the status quo situation offers the unwanted possibility of continuing conflict, misunderstanding, and potential violence between humans and members of the Bigfoot species.
