Forced recitation of the pledge of allegiance is an antiquated, authoritarian practice that should not be legal.  By mandating its recitation, you are forcing children to profess values they do not understand, and therefore do not know if they hold.  Pledges of allegiance have been used throughout history by authoritarian countries, such as Nazi Germany and Mussolini's Italy.  Singapore and Vietnam also still use a similar forced display of loyalty.

Aside from the authoritarian nature of the pledge, it also directly violates the first clause of the bill of rights: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."  The phrase "under God" insinuates that the United States is, in fact, a country whose government believes in religious principles.  According to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2019, 9% of Americans are either atheist or agnostic.  That is 29.6 million Americans whose beliefs are invalidated by this pledge.  Personally, I am an atheist, and being forced to listen to everybody in the room invalidate my beliefs at the beginning of every school day is exhausting.  Nobody deserves to be told their beliefs are not true, especially by the government.

If the pledge continues to be mandated in schools around the country, children will continue to be indoctrinated into believing imperialist, authoritarian values that sow the seeds of nationalism.  In a country with such a precariously balanced political scale, it just takes one push for us to lose our freedom.
