US Government: Cancel USD 300 millions war-debt on Cambodia Unconditionally

It is illegal debt! It needs US government to consider and take action to correct the wrong. It brings social justice to Cambodia and her people. It helps to strengthen the relationship between our two countries, cancel the debt so we can develop health care, education and poverty reduction programs for ALL Cambodians!

Letter to
US Government President Barack Obama
Cambodia is known as a country which suffered the largest amount of ordinance dropped by the USA during 1969-1974. The estimated amount of ordinance dropped by the US was 2,756,941 tonnes on 230,516 sites in Cambodia, most heavily in the South-Eastern part of the country.

The legacy of the bombs dropped extended beyond the immediate loss of lives of women, men and children. It destroyed the local infrastructure, natural resources and its wild life. It left Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) that are still causing casualties and also the dreadful consequences of Agent Orange and other chemicals, which have yet to be researched and documented, and which continue to cause havoc for generations. The bombs also had a huge psychological impact on the people, the legacy is still evident today. Despite still suffering from the consequences of the US-bombing, we have received no reparations, but instead we are punished with the additional burden of the war-debt owed to the US government.

Recently, the Cambodian government requested the cancellation of the debt owed to the United States of America, incurred during the Lon Nol regime, but this reasonable request was denied by the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

As Cambodian citizens, we continue to insist that the US government cancel the 300 million USD debt. We find it exceedingly unjust that the citizens of the country continue to suffer tremendously from the bombardment and its aftermath, and yet be held responsible for the repayment of a debt that caused so much suffering over so many years.

President Obama if you are willing to address human rights issues in Cambodia, start by unconditionally cancelling the debt!

President Obama you have the power to correct the wrong and make a significant and meaningful difference to the people of Cambodia!

President Obama if you genuinely wish to strengthen the relationship between our two countries, cancel the debt so we can develop health care, education and poverty reduction programs for ALL Cambodians!

CANCEL THE DEBT IMPOSED ON CAMBODIA BY THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!
