To help protect our teachers, students, and all school staff members
Following the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School I feel it is time to allow our school staff members the option to protect themselves and their students. These staff members need not their only option to be hide themselves and or children into closets, restrooms, and under desks. They need accessibility to a possible life saving device. Whether gun control changes, or more mental health awareness knowledge these types of events are still going to take place. Why wait when we can act now? We need to protect our teachers and staff by giving them the proper tools and knowledge with these protection devices. In the year 2012 a teachers pencil and book is not enough for them to do their job.
A taser gun, an electroshock device that immobilizes a person by disrupting muscular control, is legal in most states. As of now the taser gun is used primarily by law enforcement personnel as a less lethal alternative to handguns.
These devices were introduced as non-lethal weapons to be used by police to subdue fleeing, belligerent, or potentially dangerous people, who would have otherwise been subjected to more lethal weapons such as a firearm. A 2009 Police Executive Research Forum study said that officer injuries drop by 76% when a Taser is used. Taser CEO Rick Smith has stated that police surveys show that the device has saved 75,000 lives.
Let’s see if these can help the lives in our schools.
When you hear these tragedies you have to look at it and ask yourself, Could this be my child or loved one ? And the answer is YES.
God bless the families in Connecticut.
