Homework is one of the main reasons students feel stress in school. It isn't just a hate of school that extends to home, it actually puts more pressure on them, which leads to stress and anxiety, I believe that overall academic performance can be raised if we remove homework from our schools.
As a student, I can personally say that if I didn't have homework, I would feel a lot less stressed and anxious in school. I would know that I would be able to succeed just by the work I finish in class, and I would most likely see a jump in my grades. Other students of
Multiple studies also show that homework is more likely to have a negative effect on a student's academic performance.
As stated in Huffington Post's "5 Reasons Why Homework Is Bad For Your Child", homework "can lead to unhealthy levels of stress . . . If bombarded with countless lessons at school and home, students may feel stress and anxiety should they fail to complete an assignment on time." Their second reason is that, "they require time to rest and take their minds off schoolwork." May I remind you, the average school day is 7-8 hours long, with each class lasting around an hour. They also say that, "children [and teens] need time to spend with their family, catch up with friends, and attend extracurricular activities."
There are plenty of more websites that say homework is bad for students, I will provide links for you, and there are plenty of sites that say homework is good for students, or has no effect on their academic performance. I hope that you sign this petition, and help students in our country feel better about going to school.
