Millions of servers in the United States are unable to pay for basic necessities such as food and shelter, all because the people they serve decide not to pay them for the work they do, often times for things that are completely out of their control, such as long wait times during rushes or because a table next to them is loud. The hourly wage they earn can be as little as $2 an hour in places such as Texas, Oklahoma, and Idaho (to name a few) and their paychecks are completely wiped out by taxes. Also, many restaurants require their servers to pay the hosts and bussers a percentage of the tips they earn.

The goal of this petition is to set a required gratuity of 10% on all checks so that servers can afford a place to live and food to eat, rather than die in the gutter which seems to be the current mentality of both our government and the public.
