Politicians should share in the sacrifices that come with combat. While nothing compares to the loss of a loved one, a substantial reduction in salaries for our elected officials would make them fell the loss, if only on a financial level, the hardships that military families deal with on a daily basis. The men and women of the military work to defend our country and still earn less then the Federal minimum wage. When deployed in combat zones, the military works and is harm's way 24 hours a day and should be compensated for all 24 hours of service. By any measure, most combat troops do not earn the Federal minimum wage, and their families struggle to make do. We can no longer permit the political class to live comfortably and extravagantly during times of war while the families of those who serve live on the brink of poverty.
