Protect Our Privacy: Ask Congress to Enact the Data Freedom Act
Why this petition matters
A major problem in online data privacy is that we have very little power or control over the data we generate, and have little means of benefitting from sharing our data or opting out of the data economy.
Data about people is always about the output of a collection of people and network of social activity. For example, your data -- what you eat for breakfast, what radio stations you like, and what diseases you have--can be combined with other public or private data to make better predictions about other people, especially your friends, family, and colleagues.
As such, we need better regulation and legislation allowing for structures and regulated intermediaries that help advocate for individuals' data and privacy interests.
Sign this petition now to ask Congress to enact The Data Freedom Act and:
- Define Data Coalitions, a new class of collective bargaining entities whose purpose is to work on behalf of individuals like you to help you protect your privacy, control how your data is used by others, and receive a share of income generated from your data
- Create a Data Relations Board to resolve disputes
