Will Pflaum started this petition to US Congress and President and

We, The Small Business Owners of America (SBOA), in solidarity with our employees, customers, and neighbors, in this time of pandemic, hereby order, demand, and command the US Federal Government to lead the nation and stop playing around. Resolved:

1) The US federal government must absorb most of the costs of closures, restrictions, and shutdowns relating to emergency public health measures. We, the people in the communities of the nation, the workers, local governments, school systems, and small businesses, cannot continue to absorb these costs.

2) Anti-trust legislation must be enforced. We are prepared to rise or fall in a fair marketplace, not in a system of rigged oligarchy. Google, Amazon, Facebook, eBay, Walmart, and the others will not invest in and support our neighborhoods like we do. We stand with our communities against monopoly.

3) A marketplace is not free and fair if the terms and supply of available credit are radically different for players of different sizes. We demand fair and equal access to credit for all Americans, of all backgrounds, so that all may rise or fall on the merits of their businesses.

4) The working people of the country must come before the profits of the superrich. Vast inequality and gigantic fortunes are not good for our communities or our businesses. Prevent all the capital needed to keep our neighborhoods vibrant from ending up in the hands of a couple of people who put into idiotic and useless hedge funds or buy superyachts, private jets, or any of that garbage.

5) We no longer want to deal with employee health care. Most of us do something totally different than healthcare and have no expertise or interest in becoming providers. End the linkage between employment and the provision of healthcare. Provide healthcare for our employees? We can’t even figure it out for ourselves most of the time.

Walmart is an “essential business”? Give us a break. We sell a lot of the same stuff and we were closed by government order. PPP helped the employees and we needed that help. That was good. EIDL helped many of us stay afloat - but that was a loan and most loans were capped at $150,000. It’s now almost Christmas, and many businesses that depend on that season are at the ends of our ropes. We agree that the $1200 payment in the spring for everyone less is pretty pathetic. We are not in competition but solidarity with our neighbors, employees, and customers. Here’s what we see: the federal government is on the side of those monopolies and cartels that are nickel and diming us every day and not our neighbors and customers. Good businesses that were doing fine before COVID are going under and it’s not the “freemarket” or something we did wrong. You shut us down. Okay, so you pay for it, not us.
