The cross walk located on Cadet Sheridan Rd at Ayres Ave is heavily trafficked with school age children and caregivers in the morning and afternoon. Although this crosswalk lights have been repaired, it hasn’t improved the awareness of drivers of this crosswalk. There is still significant traffic not stopping at the crosswalk eventhough it is heavily trafficked and the lights are working. Not only are cars not stopping but they are speeding through as well. This is creating a very unsafe situation for children and caregivers. The very apparent and desperately needed solution is to have a soldier as a crossing guard there during school hours when students are going to school and returning home from school. We believe this will increase awareness and compliance of vehicles to stop and prevent an inevitable tragedy of a child or adult being hit. We parents and residents petition to have a crossing guard in place at this crosswalk as soon as feasibly possible.
