Bakken oil is toxic and corrosive. It is far more flammable and far more volatile than typical crude oil. Pilgrim Pipeline LLC plans to install these parallel, bi-directional pipelines in our neighborhoods. The pipeline will run extremely close to, and even directly over, our drinking water sources, cross environmentally fragile areas, and run by our schools and homes. Crude oil will run south and crude oil products will run north.
Because the oil is corrosive, the danger of polluting our water is real, even without spills. Our water supply is critical. We have something very special and very cheap in NJ, WATER! At some point in time, it's safe to say that water will be more important than oil and we CANNOT compromise our water supply in NJ!
Bakken crude oil can be explosive and poses an array of health and safety risks to all of the communities along its proposed route. In order to build this pipeline, our communities would have to be dug up by equipment that will clog our roads, negatively affect our businesses, and diminish our housing market values. The nature of the work alone poses a risk to our water security in NJ.
This pipeline is a lose, lose, lose for all residents, not only from Albany, NY to Linden, NJ, but to everyone in NJ who has a right to clean drinking water!
