At Ursuline College, we do not currently recycle plastics. This is an issue for our community, as they add up in landfills very quick. Plastic can take up to 1,000 years to decompose. Instead of cluttering up landfills, we should be sorting them apart from compost and breaking them down. Pollution of our water and air has made this an issue of justice. Humans and other species are suffering, just trying to survive on the earth. By recycling, we can reduce energy consumption, decrease pollution, and conserve our natural resources. Although recycling does come at a financial cost, there is a net benefit that outweighs it. Ursuline College and all students should be held accountable for the plastic we use and be taking action to undo our footprint here.
