Why this petition matters

Started by Timotei Giurgiu

The current situation in belarus is dramatic. Human rights are trampled on and oppositional activists fear for their lives.

After a civil airplane got hijacked by the belarusian air force on order of belarusian dictator Aleksandr Lukashenko, authorities delivered the explanation that there could have been a bomb on board. The Ryan Air Flight 4978 was forced to land in minsk, which did not make sense at all, as it's initial destination, Vilnius was nearer. The real goal of the hijacking was to arrest the belarusian journalist and activist Roman Protasevich and his girlfriend Sofia Sapega who were on board of the flight. On may 24th and 25th both appeared in videos that are supposed to show their "confessions" which clearly have been made under duress. In the video notable signs of violence and torture can be seen on the forehead of 26 year old Roman. On 3rd june yet another staged "confession" was released in form of an interview with Roman Protasevich on national belarusian television. The interview was also conducted under duress, and signs of torture are recognizable, as there are visible marks on his wrists.

These arrests and methods violate human rights and are unacceptable.

This is why we call for Ursula von der Leyen, Charles Michel, Josep Borrell, the European Commission, the European Council, the Foreign Affairs Council, the European External Action Service, All the Heads of State or Goverment of EU member states, as well as all foreign ministers of the EU member states to work together to accomplish the expelling of every single belarusian diplomat (such as ambassadors) working in the European Union.

Our goal in the short term is to put the regime in minsk under pressure. But more important, our goal in the long term is to use the pressure to achive the liberation of Roman Protasevich and Sofia Sapega.

So please help us to reach our goals by signing and sharing our petition.

Donations will be used to organize Protests in Brussels and other european capital cities.
