Why this petition matters

Grand Ave. is Coconut Grove's main thoroughfare, providing prime access to its business district. The intersection of Grand Ave. and Matilda St. is where Coconut Grove Elementary is located, which is adjacent to Cocowalk, Coconut Grove's popular open-air shopping mall.

Fuller St., which connects Matilda St. on the other side of Grand Ave., was recently closed off to cars to become a pedestrian street because of its vitality to our community.  Fuller St. hosts a very popular bar, community events, and concerts.  Fuller St. has quickly become a social nexus now that it's pedestrian only, and because it conveniently connects Grand Ave. to Main Highway, another prominent thoroughfare in Coconut Grove. The Grand Ave. and Matilda St./Fuller St. intersection has unusually high foot traffic.

Crossing Grand Ave. at Matilda St./Fuller St. is dangerous.  Cars often perilously speed on Grand Ave., especially going to/from work, shopping at Cocowalk or The Grove's boutiques, after happy hours, or after lunches/dinners in our beloved Grove.  At night with less visibility and nothing to slow traffic, this intersection's danger exponentially increases. A flashing or lighted crosswalk would sufficiently signal to drivers pedestrians are crossing Grand Ave. & Matilda St./Fuller St.

TELL THE COUNTY AND RAQUEL REGALADO, THE COUNTY COMMISSIONER, WE WANT GRAND AVE. & MATILDA/FULLER ST. SAFE FROM THE GROVE'S EVER-GROWING TRAFFIC PROBLEM. SIGN HERE TO MAKE FULLER ST., MATILDA ST., AND GRAND AVE. SAFER FOR PEDESTRIANS!
