Urge Virginia Legislators to Support Legislation to Protect Adults and Minors from Human Trafficking
Victims of human trafficking face a horrific life in which they are threatened, beaten, raped, starved, locked up, or psychologically manipulated- all for the financial profit of traffickers.
Please help support two critical pieces of legislation by calling your State Senators and telling them to vote YES on House Bill 1898 and House Bill 2190!
Human trafficking is a brutal crime that lurks in the shadows and thrives on secrecy and isolation of victims. Victims of human trafficking face a horrific life in which they are threatened, beaten, raped, starved, locked up, or psychologically manipulated- all for the financial profit of traffickers. The crime is far more common in Virginia than one might think. Legislation that would expand the scope of laws that are used to prosecute human trafficking in Virginia and create a plan for delivering services to victims is crucial in the fight against modern-day slavery.
Virginia House Bill 1898 would criminalize the abduction of an adult for prostitution, extend abduction for prostitution to all minors, and criminalize receiving money for causing a person to become a victim of human trafficking. Virginia House Bill 2190 would require the Department of Social Services to develop a plan for identifying victims of human trafficking and delivering vital services such housing, health care, education, job training, and legal services. Both of these bill recently passed the House of Delegates and will be heading over to the Virginia Senate. Your support is needed!
House Bill 1898 would expand the scope of abduction for prostitution to both adults and children who are not currently covered under existing law. These changes would make Virginia’s laws against human trafficking substantially stronger and allow prosecutors to target those who abduct adults for the purposes of prostitution.
House Bill 2190 would create a plan for identifying victims of human trafficking and for delivering vital services that victims need to begin the recovery process. This plan would create for the first time, a coordinated response to victims of human trafficking for the delivery of resources they need and deserve.

Human Trafficking is one of the fastest growing criminal industries in the world, in which traffickers reap billions in profits by using force, fraud or coercion to rob victims (including US citizens and foreign nationals) of their freedom. It is estimated that thousands of U.S. citizens are trafficked within the United States, including more than 100,000 children in commercial sex. Virginia is not exempt from the brutality of human trafficking
I am emailing you today to urge you to vote YES on House Bills 1898 & 2190. These bills will improve Virginia’s laws against human trafficking by expanding the scope of abduction for prostitution to adults and minors, as well as create a plan for the delivery of services to victims of this terrible crime. This will help send a message to human traffickers in Virginia.
