Urge USF to Change Disabled Hostile Architecture

Urge USF to Change Disabled Hostile Architecture
Why this petition matters

The University of South Florida is not as disabled-friendly as it should be, since it was built in the 50s before the ADA was passed. There is a lack of appropriate ramps and widened walkways for those with mobility aids to access campus as regular students or faculty. There should be adequate shade and resting spots for those who fatigue more quickly due to their disability and those with disabilities exaggerated by the Florida heat. If we are paying thousands of dollars for the privilege of college education, those who are disabled and still paying that tuition should not have to encounter these issues.
I am starting this petition because the more I see of the Tampa campus, the more I wonder how students can get to classes and appointments on time with steep ramps and metal poles on sidewalks in a wheelchair or with a cane.
By signing this petition, we are a step closer to initiating change by showing the administration it is a problem.
My name is Sophia, and I am a freshman at USF Tampa. Due to an advancing rheumatological condition, there are days when a mobility aid is necessary to get to classes, or out of bed. My joints will lock, overextend, and grind. Walking becomes a whole different task. Though I consider myself lucky for being able to get a higher education, I can't help but wonder how those who have it worse than me manage it. Not only is there the mental barrier of college stress, but now there is a physical barrier keeping you from getting to class on time or your professor's scheduled office hours.
